 Gulmarg literally means flower meadow. It is a majestic hill station in the Baramula district of Jammu and Kashmir in India. Tourist attractions in Gulmarg

Gondola ride Gulmarg offers the most breathtaking adventure to the tourists with the cable car ride. Operated by the Jammu & Kashmir State Cable Car Corporations, the gondola ride is considered the highest in the world. The ride is divided into two stages, one from Gulmarg to Kongdoor (8530 feet) and the second to Apherwat (12293 feet). During the ride, tourists will see the beautiful pine forests, magnificent views of the lush green hills and picturesque surroundings. Afterwards, the gondola ride also passes by Khilanmarg - a field covered with blooming and colourful flowers.

Snow sports

Gulmarg is the hotspot for skiers. In India, Gulmarg is a popular place for snow sports and tourists can even try snowboarding here. In winters, the place is completely covered with a white blanket of snow, which turns out to be a paradise for skiers. There are natural and pristine slopes that pose a great challenge to the best skiers. The Indian Institute of Skiing & Mountaineering offers numerous skiing courses for both beginners and professionals. The best time to visit Gulmarg for skiing is from January to March.

Gulmarg Golf Club

Established in 1911 by the British, Gulmarg Golf Club is spread over a beautiful green terrain. It is the highest green gold course in India and offers an 18-hole gold course to its guests. One can even buy a temporary membership for a day to play golf.

Alpather Lake 

Located 13 km from Gulmarg is the dazzling and serene Alpather Lake. The lake is shaped like a triangle and is surrounded by picturesque snow-capped hills. To add to its beauty, there are beautiful gardens beside the lake.

 The lake remains completely frozen until June, after which a few floating pieces of ice can be seen in the crystal clear water. The place is also popular with trekking lovers. Apart from all these attractions, tourists can also take a ride to the magnificent & Leopards Valley, Strawberry Valley and the frozen lake of Al- Pathar.
