The Buddhist monastery is located in Darjeeling. It is one of the most famous places to visit in the city of Darjeeling. Hinduism is the most important faith in Darjeeling and you can see many temples of Hindu gods and goddesses here. Most of the Bengalis and Nepalese living here are Hindus. Buddhism is the next most widespread faith here. Over the years, many Tibetan refugees have come to Darjeeling, who are mainly Buddhists. Over the years, several exquisite monasteries have sprung up in Darjeeling, some dating back to the 1800s.


Christians are a minority and generally have their roots in the British colonial period. They too have numerous endearing church buildings, some of which were built during the British Raj period. Some monasteries like the Samten Choling and the Old Ghum Monastery are part of the local sightseeing programmes. And some temples and shrines like the Mahakal Temple and St Andrews Church can be reached on foot from the Mall area itself.
