Japanese Peace Pagoda - known as the Japanese Peace Pagoda
Japanese Peace Pagoda
The Peace Pagoda of Darjeeling, popularly
known as the Japanese Peace Pagoda, was built under the strict
guidance of Nichidatsu Fujii, a monk from Japan. This pagoda, as the
name suggests, was built for the great cause of world peace. This
pagoda focuses on the people of different castes, creeds and
religions in the world and has the mission to unite them.
Designed
by M. Ohka, the pagoda was completed in 1992 and required about 36
months of continuous work. Nichidatsu Fujii inaugurated this place.
This pagoda houses 4 different avatars of the Buddha, beautifully
carved and said to be from Japan itself.
The total height
of the pagoda is about 28.5 metres and the diameter is 23 metres.
Nestled in the hills of Jalapahar, this place is just a few
kilometres from Darjeeling. If you want to take some time out, this
is the perfect place for you!
