The Darjeeling Clock Tower is located in Darjeeling, an area rich in British colonial history and historical past. The regular tour operators no longer offer such guided walks. Why is that? Because not many locals are interested in Darjeeling's history anymore, as most are immigrants from Nepal, Sikkim and Tibbet. Since the 1800s, the British colonial administration has left behind many historical sites and historic houses, including memorials and monuments, church buildings, parks, faculties, clubs, etc.
Darjeeling has centuries-old historic houses and dwellings that reflect traditional British architecture. Darjeeling is the largest tea producer in the world and is internationally known for its tea gardens that produce the "champagne of tea". Most of these extensive tea plantations were established at some point during colonial times and still thrive. Many still have the original planters' bungalows, preserving the old colonial charisma.
